The purpose of this guide is to explain how to install UBUNTU 20.04 on a older server where the CPU is missing all the instructions to run the newest installer that UBUNTU upgraded to in version 18.04.
Once the operating system has completed the installation with your desired settings you can start the upgrade process. This process must be done in two steps first the operating system will be upgraded to 18.04 and then finally to 20.04 LTS, it is best not to install any apps before the upgrade as not all version of all apps will work with the different versions of UBUNTU and will be deleted between upgrades if not compatible.
There are 2 commands to start the upgrade process.
The first command we will run is:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
This command will update / upgrade all installed apps and services ready for the operation system upgrade. You should see an output like this. Select y when prompted.
The next command that will start the operating system upgrade is:
You should see this output. Select y when prompted.
After this command has run the system will reboot as UBUNTU 18.04 LTS you can now run through both commands again to upgrade the OS to UBUNTU 20.04 LTS. Enjoy your fully up to date UBUNTU server.Tags: 16.04, 20.04, server, UBUNTU
