How to configure VM Windows Server 2012 for VMWare Tools installation


If you are using Windows Server 2012 on VMWare, would like to install VMWare Tools on it but always get the following errors:

Follow the steps described below as they could help you out.


 

STEP 1: On your physical machine, open your web browser, and navigate to:

 

Server 2012 Updates

 

NOTE: If you could not visit the above address, ask your teacher for help.


 

STEP 2: Download the “Server 2012 Updates.iso” to your local hard drive on the physical machine.

STEP 3: Open your VMWare Workstation and find the Windows Server 2012 virtual machine in which you would like to install the VMWare Tools.

STEP 4: Right-click the virtual machine you found in STEP 3, and select “Settings…”

STEP 5: In the “Virtual Machine Settings” prompt, click “Hardware” label then select “CD/DVD (SATA)”

STEP 6: In the “Connection” field, select “Use ISO image file:”, then click “Browse…”

STEP 7: In the following prompt, select the “Server 2012 Updates.iso” file stored in local hard drive (see STEP 1&2), then click “Open”

STEP 8: Click “OK” at the bottom of “Virtual Machine Settings” prompt.


 

STEP 9: Head to your Server 2012 virtual machine, open File Explorer, then open DVD Drive, and install all the updates in the disc.

Then you should be able to install VMWare Tools on this Windows Server 2012 virtual machine.
